Aston Villa defender Alex Moreno has provided an update on his recovery from his hamstring injury, and it continues to look positive.
The 30-year-old suffered the setback at Anfield in our penultimate game of last season, with Unai Emery shortly after confirming that the Spaniard had undergone surgery.

While the timeline provided then was one of three to four months on the sidelines, which in turn would rule Moreno out of the start of the new Premier League season on August 12, it had been hoped throughout the break that he would be able to make progress and perhaps return ahead of schedule.
No player wants to miss pre-season due to injury as it ultimately impacts their entire preparation for the new campaign and leaves them playing catch up, and so it would be a real boost to see him return in the coming weeks.
As seen in the image below that Moreno posted on Instagram on Thursday, he added the caption; ‘Stronger’, as he continues to work hard at Bodymoor Heath in the gym with the medical staff.
With the rest of the squad expected back in from next week for pre-season, we’ll hopefully hear from Emery as he begins preparations for the new year, and there potentially might be an update on Moreno at that stage.
Nevertheless, given the nature of the injury, Villa won’t take any chances in rushing him back, and so time will tell if he is able to feature at all during our trip to the USA later this month, or perhaps in the friendlies scheduled on our return.
Lucas Digne will undoubtedly feature prominently in his absence as he looks to stake his claim having been fended off by Moreno and pushed to the bench in the second half of last season, and it also remains to be seen if Villa opt to bring further competition and depth in that role in this transfer window.
For now though, it’s looking positive on Moreno, and it’s hoped that he continues to make steady progress in his recovery.
