Pau Torres update as to when Villa could announce second signing

Aston Villa will reportedly make the signing of Pau Torres official next Tuesday, with any fears over the deal not being done having been dismissed.

As per the Athletic on June 29, Villa reached an agreement with Villarreal to sign the Spanish international, while personal terms had also been agreed, which in turn suggested that an announcement could be imminent.

However, we’ve had to wait for official news to come through on what would be an excellent signing to strengthen our squad, thus sparking concern that a swoop for the 26-year-old defensive ace may not quite be over the line just yet.

Fortunately, Fabrizio Romano has moved to dismiss that concern by insisting that the deal is not in any danger of falling through, and the delay is simply down to the fact that Torres is currently on his honeymoon, and when he returns in the coming days, he will then travel to Birmingham to undergo his medical and complete all formalities of his move.

Further, Marca have reported that the expectation is that Torres will be announced next Tuesday, as they cite the same reason for the hold up in making it official, while they add more of a timeline to fill in the blanks and provide more detail.

The Spaniard is said to be set to return from his honeymoon on Sunday, and he will then travel to England and Villa are tipped to announce his arrival on Tuesday or Wednesday. It’s added that the transfer will be worth around €33m, plus €5m in add-ons, while Torres will put pen to paper on a five-year contract until June 2028.

With the Villa squad expected to start returning for pre-season training next week, it may well prove to be a perfect time for Torres to join up with his new teammates at Bodymoor Heath, and start the process of settling and acclimatising to his new surroundings.

Having already announced the arrival of Youri Tielemans this summer, it’s hoped that once the Torres move has been confirmed, Villa boss Unai Emery will continue to see reinforcements arrive where necessary, as we prepare for a big year in which we hope to compete on multiple fronts and build on last season’s progression.

Given the quality and experience that Torres possesses, he will certainly be a significant addition that will hopefully continue to help us become increasingly competitive at the top level, and there is much anticipation over his arrival, especially given the wait since news of the deal being agreed first broke.

    1. No confirmation from the club as of yet as would assume they’d welcome him on social media and make a big deal of it. If not yet, hopefully not far off from getting to work officially/sure he’s busy behind the scenes.
