Villa talent closing in on permanent exit in sensible switch for all concerned

Aston Villa forward Louie Barry is reportedly closing in on a permanent exit this summer as he’s linked with a move to join Sheffield Wednesday.

The 23-year-old joined us from Barcelona in 2020, and after impressing and playing a key role in our success at youth level, he has since been sent out on a string of loan spells to the likes of Swindon Town, Stockport County and Hull City.

In turn, the expectation has been for some time that he will eventually move on permanently as a breakthrough into the Villa first-team squad appears unlikely, and a transfer could now materialise this summer.

According to The Star, talks are said to be advancing at pace over a permanent move for Barry to join Sheffield Wednesday, with the Villa forward said to be keen to now find some stability in his career and settle at a club to try and showcase his best football.

It’s added that although Sheff Weds are operating under financial restrictions this summer, they are being tipped to potentially pay a lesser up-front fee and include significant bonus payments further down the line in order to try and reach an agreement with Villa.

Ultimately, it would be a move that makes sense for all concerned, as Sheff Weds would bolster their attack with a top talent who has the potential to develop into a highly impactful player, Barry would get the stability noted above and a prominent role to try and guide the club back up to the Championship, while Villa cash in on another Academy product that will hopefully make some sort of impact when it comes to our own financial situation this summer.

With the competition for places already at the club coupled with Unai Emery likely to be looking at reinforcements on the market this summer to add more threat to our attacking options, Barry is seemingly stuck at Villa with loans no longer of any real benefit, and so it’s hoped that should this touted move go through, it works out for both him and the club in the long run.
