Aston Villa are believed to be closing in on the signing of talented young striker Rory Wilson from Rangers.
The 16-year-old has impressed at youth level for the Scottish giants having bagged 49 goals last season, but with his contract expiring, he’s set to move on this summer.

As noted by Fabrizio Romano in his tweet below, Villa have agreed personal terms with the starlet and he will officially be signed by the club on July 1.
It’s added that Steven Gerrard was a key factor in helping Villa fend off interest from elsewhere to seal the signing of Wilson, and given his ties with the club having been there last season as manager, he may well have been aware of his talent for some time.
With our success at youth level in recent seasons in mind, it’s going to continue to be an important part of the Villa strategy to keep bringing in top youth talent to ensure the Academy is strong and we’re competitive at lower age levels.
Wilson will hopefully make a major impact for us next season and beyond, and ultimately the goal for all concerned is to develop and improve him into being a first-team player capable of making a big impression at the top level.
Time will tell if Wilson is capable of making that step up, but he’ll no doubt relish the opportunity to perform at a good level now while hopefully impressing enough to perhaps even train with the first-team when possible and pick up tips from the likes of Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings in training.
For now though, Villa look set to land his signature, and it hopefully proves to be another smart piece of business in terms of bringing in more top young talent to improve the youth teams.
