Evidently, what he has shown so far this season has impressed the Villa hierarchy, and as per the club’s official site, they’ve confirmed that Archer has put pen to paper on a new deal that will run until 2025.

That is an important show of faith in the youngster, and although competition at the top level is fierce with Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings ahead of him in the pecking order, it’s hoped that he is given opportunities to grow and improve on his path to becoming a key member of the senior squad.

Time will tell if his progression in the more short-term future involves a loan stint elsewhere, with Steven Gerrard tasked with making the right decision for both the club and Archer himself.

Nevertheless, for now, the talented forward can enjoy the moment having signed his new deal, and he was clearly delighted with the new agreement as he looks to build on what he’s shown thus far and kick on in his career, in a Villa shirt.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” he told the club. “It’s been a long time coming but I’ve finally put pen to paper and I’m happy to be spending the next few years here.”

He added: “I’ve been here since I was eight years old and I’ve made my way through the ranks – it’s been a tough journey. It’s all paid off and I’m looking to kick on now.”
