Aston Villa winger Alysson is back at Bodymoor Heath this week as he prepares for a crucial pre-season this summer.
The 20-year-old joined us from Gremio in January, but an injury-plagued first season at the club saw him limited to just three appearances, totalling 47 minutes of playing time.

Having arrived off the back of the Brazilian domestic season and trying to adapt to a new environment, culture and league, it would have been a difficult process for the talented youngster and his injuries began to stack up in training as a result.

In turn, this summer is a crucial one for him to work on his fitness and injury resistance, and hopefully make a strong case over the course of our pre-season schedule to earn his spot in Unai Emery’s plans for the new campaign.
Naturally, there will be the possibility of a loan move elsewhere to help his development with regular playing time, but ultimately it’s hoped that Alysson gets the opportunity to impress this summer, and can build on that in a Villa shirt next season.
As seen in the image below from his Instagram account, the Brazilian starlet is already back at Bodymoor Heath this week as his hard work gets underway early, and so it’s hoped that he’s making good progress in the early part of the summer before the rest of the squad return and our pre-season games get underway.
With Harvey Elliott, Jadon Sancho and possibly Leon Bailey all not returning next season, there is certainly an opening for Alysson if he can prove his reliability and quality, and so it will be fascinating to see him in action next month and hopefully he’s able to showcase his potential and remain with us beyond August.
