Having struggled in the second half of last season with captain Jack Grealish sidelined by injury for the majority of it, adding more quality in the final third was undoubtedly a priority for the club ahead of next season to help take us to that next level.

As reported by John Percy of the The Telegraph, Villa and Norwich have agreed a fee of around £30m for the Argentine international, while he has also agreed personal terms with us and underwent his medical in Argentina on Saturday while on International duty.

There are also add-ons in the agreement, but Buendia is now seemingly set to become Villa’s club-record signing should a move be officially confirmed in the coming days, with Smith and all concerned undoubtedly delighted to have got their man with the club focusing on quality over quantity this summer.

Buendia, 24, enjoyed a stellar campaign last year with 15 goals and 17 assists in 41 appearances for Norwich, playing a pivotal role in their promotion from the Championship.

Despite his influential role for the club, they have opted to listen to offers this summer and have given the green light to a move to Villa Park, with Buendia now set to link up with compatriot Emiliano Martinez on their return for pre-season after the pair were pictured together last week while with the national team.

Assuming the deal does go through as expected now, Villa will be adding another quality player to bring a new dynamic to our attack, with Buendia’s link up with Grealish and Ollie Watkins an exciting prospect as we look to improve again next year and continue to climb the Premier League standings.
