Deserved national team call-up for influential Villa ace, praised by coach

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has received a call-up for the Brazil national squad, and has been praised by coach Fernando Diniz.

The 25-year-old has been consistently excellent for Villa for some time now, but particularly over the last 12 months working under Unai Emery, he has taken his game to the next level.

Luiz has been highly influential in our improved and sustained form under the Spanish tactician, and having been given a more advanced role with more freedom to dictate and create in our midfield, he has excelled and showcased his qualities.

In turn, it’s great to see him finally return to the Brazil squad having seemingly deserved to be there sooner, but he will no doubt be delighted to get that call now at least, and it’s hoped that he gets playing time in the upcoming international break to cement his spot in the national team moving forward.

“Douglas is one of the highlights of the Premier League, he’s a player who’s been monitored here for a long time,” Diniz told the media, as per BirminghamLive. “He’s been in the first team, an Olympic champion.

“I’ve known him since he was very young and he’s going through the best moment of his career. It’s a well deserved call-up. He’s a player with a lot of character and has everything it takes to start a new era with the national team.”

From a Villa perspective, it’s a crucial development for us too as a prolonged inability to break into the Brazil set-up may have been a reason as to why Luiz might have considered a move elsewhere.

That’s not to say he has given any hint whatsoever about wanting to leave, but it arguably can play on the mind of some individuals, and that might have become a concern for us moving forward.

Nevertheless, as he continues to impress and influence our progress to compete at the top and for silverware, he’ll hopefully do the same for the Selecao now, and it’s certainly deserved given the high level he’s been operating at consistently for well over a year.
