Long-term Villa injury absentee continues to make promising progress

Aston Villa playmaker Emiliano Buendia has provided another positive update on his ongoing recovery from injury this week.

The 27-year-old hasn’t featured this season after suffering a serious knee injury just prior to the campaign starting, and so it’s been a gruelling rehabilitation and recovery process for him over the last seven months or so.

Fortunately, it looks as though he’s continuing to make important steps forward in that work, as after the club confirmed last week that he has resumed individual training out on the grass at Bodymoor Heath, his workload is seemingly progressively being stepped up.

As seen in the images below, the Argentine ace is not only working outside still but he’s doing more weight work in the gym to strengthen his lower body, and so it’s hoped that we’re not far off seeing him return to group training.

It’s unclear at this stage as to when that might be, but that will be the next major checkpoint for Buendia as that would move him closer to potentially getting some minutes at U21s level to then build his match fitness and sharpness back up.

Naturally, the Villa medical staff will avoid taking any risks with him at this stage to ensure there are no late setbacks in his comeback, but the promising updates continue and it’s great to see having been without him for so long already.

Again, there is little clarity on whether or not we’ll see Buendia play this season as Unai Emery will need him to fully integrate back into the squad before he’s ready to feature, but what a boost it would be to see him get back on the pitch at Villa Park before the campaign ends as the reception he’ll receive will be a special moment for the Argentine.
