Villa ace posts positive injury update after significant progress

Aston Villa have been handed a real boost on the injury front as Emiliano Buendia has posted a significant new update on his recovery.

The 27-year-old has missed the entire season thus far after sustaining a serious knee injury in training on the eve of the campaign, and his absence has been a major blow for Unai Emery and the squad.

Following the setback, the expectation was that the Argentine playmaker would miss most, if not all, of the current season, but he has consistently provided updates through his recovery and rehabilitation work, which has unsurprisingly been a gruelling process for him.

As seen in his latest social media post below though, it’s brilliant to see Buendia back out on the grass at Bodymoor Heath, in what is a major step forward for him as he continues to work towards making his comeback.

Now, of course there is still a long way to go as he’ll need to get plenty of work done out on the pitches at the training ground in personalised sessions to help get him back up to speed, before he then has to reintegrate into group training to ramp his workload up again.

It’s likely that Emery will want him to get minutes for the U21s before he features again at senior level too, and so there are still a number of checkpoints for Buendia to reach before we see him back in action.

Nevertheless, he’ll be delighted with the fact that he’s now back at this stage in his rehab, as it must have been a very difficult period for him being away from his teammates for such a lengthy period while working on his recovery.

With 10 games remaining in the Premier League and hopefully a run to the Europa Conference League final to look forward to, with the final being played in Athens on May 29, there is hope that we’ll see him feature, albeit in a likely very limited role, before the season ends.

While we’ve added quality and competition to the squad in his absence, Buendia was a mainstay in the Villa XI under Emery prior to his injury blow, and he’ll no doubt return to being a key figure for us when he’s back fully fit.
