Crucial boost as Villa ace resumes training ahead of run-in

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is set for an injury boost as Jacob Ramsey has resumed group training this week ahead of our clash with Wolves.

The 22-year-old has seen his season disrupted by injury setbacks, as he has been limited to just 21 appearances across all competitions.

Given how impressive and important he was last season after Unai Emery’s arrival and having shown glimpses in his appearances so far this year, Ramsey’s absence has been a blow despite our progress and successes without him.

The Villa midfielder has missed our last two Premier League games since limping off after just 29 minutes at Luton Town, as he also sat out our round-of-16 Europa Conference League tie with Ajax this month.

While Emery has options at his disposal given our strength in depth this year, Ramsey’s work ethic, energy, attacking quality and the balance that he helps bring to the side have all been sorely missed, and so it’s a huge boost to see him back amongst the group, training at Bodymoor Heath, as seen in the image below.

That said, we’ve been here before on a couple of occasions this season where we’ve welcomed him back only to be disappointed that he’s sustained a setback shortly after, and so the hope now is that he’s ready to play an integral role in the run-in to end the season as it would provide us with a significant lift.

A fundamental part of not only our progression, but also our ability to play our best football last season, was the impact that Ramsey and Alex Moreno had down our left flank.

If that duo can rediscover their best individual form and get that link-up play back to where it was previously, it could prove to be so vital to our aspirations in the coming weeks and months in terms of how we finish this campaign.

Given his layoff though, it seems unlikely that Ramsey will come straight back in against Wolves this weekend, but Emery will surely be keen to give him minutes as soon as possible to help reintegrate him and get him back up to speed to play a key role in our upcoming fixtures both domestically and in Europe.
