Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey has emerged as an injury concern after being spotted on crutches after England U21s win over Portugal on Sunday.
The 22-year-old was replaced after 67 minutes in the quarter-final encounter, as after challenging for the ball while sat on the floor, it appeared as though he had his ankle stepped on.

With Ramsey unable to continue, there was further concern after the game as seen in the image below, as the Villa ace was spotted on crutches.
As per Alex Howell, England U21s boss Lee Carsley provided an update on the injury after the game, and it’s hoped that further tests reveal that there is no serious damage and that the measures taken were merely precautionary.
“We’ll assess Jacob tomorrow,” he said. “We won’t be taking any chances. If there’s a chance of a player with injections, they won’t be doing that. It’s still development football. Jacob’s in good hands. He’s got a lot of numbness in his foot and ankle.”
Given the impressive season he just had, particularly under Unai Emery, Ramsey has a big year ahead of him in a Villa shirt as we look to compete on multiple fronts for silverware and build on the progress made in the last campaign.
With pre-season training starting in the coming weeks as well as our first outing against Walsall scheduled for July 15, Ramsey will want to be healthy and fully fit heading into that period as he prepares himself for the season ahead.
Naturally, given his international commitments, he is likely to have an extended break and so would be expected back at Bodymoor Heath later than others, but it’s just hoped now that he isn’t sidelined by his injury and is able to not only feature for the England U21s in their semi-final clash, but will also be ready to go when he reports back for Villa later this month.
With Alex Moreno, Philippe Coutinho and Bertrand Traore already all recovering from injury over the summer break, Emery will be desperate to avoid any further setbacks between now and the start of our pre-season work.
