Blow as key Villa figure suffers injury setback but recovery timeline unknown

Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey has reportedly suffered an injury setback after a reoccurrence of his foot problem that sidelined him over the summer.

The 22-year-old missed the start of this season after suffering a broken metatarsal while on England U21s duty in the summer, and his absence has been a blow for us given his influence when involved.

He reiterated his importance to the side with a goal against Brighton last weekend as he looked to be on the comeback trail, but as revealed by Unai Emery, he was ruled out of our midweek Europa Conference League encounter with Zrinjski due to an injury issue.

“With Jacob Ramsey, we are again trying to check him because he is not available for tomorrow,” Emery told the media on Wednesday, as per VillaTV. “He has some pain after the match he played on Saturday, and after he felt something against Chelsea.

“He’s not available for tomorrow, we’re checking him and we’re going to wait for the analysis of the results.”

As per The Athletic, it’s the foot problem that is still troubling Ramsey, but they note that a timeframe on his return is unknown at this stage and so it remains to be seen if it keeps him out for a significant period or not.

Naturally, there is concern that Ramsey could be sidelined again and that will be a disappointing blow for Villa given we’re still without a number of key individuals due to injury problems.

For now though, it’s hoped that there is good news ahead of our clash with Wolves on Sunday, or at the very least that Ramsey will be available after the upcoming international break and doesn’t need extensive treatment.

Emery does have options with Nicolo Zaniolo playing a key role after his arrival this past summer, while Leon Bailey made his comeback from an issue of his own in midweek.

However, with Alex Moreno, Moussa Diaby, Boubacar Kamara all missing out on Thursday, while long-term absentees Emiliano Buendia and Tyrone Mings remain sidelined, we’ll hopefully have a positive update from Emery in the coming days and it isn’t as bad as initially feared for Ramsey.
