Aston Villa injury news: Small setback for key ace, doubt vs Brighton

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery revealed after our 2-1 defeat to Everton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night that Jacob Ramsey has picked up a ‘small injury’, which ruled him out.

The 22-year-old only recently returned from an injury he sustained over the summer while playing for England U21s, as he came off the bench against both Legia Warsaw and Chelsea.

Given the quality he adds to the side and the influence he has shown he’s capable of having on our attacking play coupled with his defensive work, Ramsey is a fundamental figure in Emery’s preferred starting XI and it was a huge boost to have him back.

However, he is now a doubt for the visit of Brighton on Saturday, as the Villa boss revealed that he has picked up a fresh knock but allayed fears over a potential lengthy spell on the sidelines again.

As per the Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell, Emery revealed that Ramsey has a “small injury” which makes him a doubt for this weekend, but added that “it is not bad news with the injury he has now”, thus suggesting that it shouldn’t keep him out too long.

It’s unclear at this stage if it came during the win over Chelsea, as the Villa midfielder did appear to be in pain in the second half at Stamford Bridge after a heavy challenge, as he pointed to his ankle area.

With Emery due to speak to the media in his pre-match press conference later in the week, we’ll likely get an update then on whether or not Ramsey will be involved in the matchday squad, but the fact that he’s picked up another issue is something we could really do without right now.

Off the back of a hugely disappointing result and exit from a cup competition in which we had hopes of competing in to ultimately try and win, potentially losing Ramsey for this weekend makes the night even worse, particularly with Alex Moreno’s comeback being pushed back too.

It’s hoped that there is better news on the injury front in the coming days and weeks, as we certainly miss those players who we’ve been without so far this season, particularly with some of our squad players failing to step up when given a chance in the past week.
