Aston Villa injury news: Kamara, Cash, Coutinho recovery timelines

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has confirmed that Matty Cash, Philippe Coutinho and Boubacar Kamara will miss our encounter with Nottingham Forest.

While Coutinho has been a long-term absentee and will now miss his seventh consecutive Premier League game, Cash suffered a calf injury over the international break and has missed our last two outings.

As for Kamara, he made his return from an ankle issue against Chelsea on April 1, but after being replaced at half-time in our win at Stamford Bridge, he was absent against Leicester City last time out.

Emery has confirmed that the Frenchman has sustained a setback and will not be available this weekend, and while neither are Coutinho or Cash, the Villa trio have all been given a similar recovery timeline.

“He (Kamara) is not available, we are waiting on how he is going with his progress,” Emery told the media, as per VillaTV“His injury is usually more or less 10 days or two weeks. He is not going to play tomorrow.

“Philippe Coutinho and Matty Cash are both still injured.

“The same as with Kamara, different injuries, but they are more or less 10 days or two weeks (before we’re) thinking they will come back.”

That touted timeline not only rules them out this weekend then, as they’ll also likely be absent against Newcastle Utd and Brentford too, with a potential comeback game against Fulham on April 25 being targeted.

Naturally, the hope is that they can recover sooner than that, and additionally they will need to regain match fitness to be in a position to return to the Villa XI, as we continue to try and compete for a European qualification spot this season.

Given the influence and impact of Kamara and Cash in particular, it is a blow for Emery to be without their services, but we do have quality options to come in and fill those voids, and it’s hoped that we can continue our excellent recent form starting this Saturday as we look for a sixth win in our last seven league outings.
