Aston Villa injury news: Smith provides update on Leon Bailey, Morgan Sanson

Aston Villa duo Leon Bailey and Morgan Sanson are ‘recovering well’ according to boss Dean Smith, with both currently sidelined by injury.

Bailey was forced off after scoring in the 3-0 win over Everton earlier this month, while Sanson had to be replaced 42 minutes into his return for the first team against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

The pair had both impressed in those respective games, and so to lose them again to a fresh injury setbacks was a blow for all concerned.

While Villa were able to secure a win over Man Utd last weekend, it’s hoped that we can get three points at Tottenham on Sunday to follow that up, before our squad get a chance to rest over the international break.

As per Smith in an interview with VillaTV on Wednesday, it sounds as though both Bailey and Sanson are doing well and the Villa boss was unsurprisingly pleased with how they looked before picking up those knocks.

“They’re recovering well. Both had muscle strains, only minimal, but we have to make sure they’re right so there’s not a re-injury. Tough for both of them [as they missed pre-season], but they’ll be back soon.”

That’s a positive update on the duo as it’s hoped that they don’t suffer any setbacks in their recovery now, and it’s expected that they will be available again soon after the international break.

Villa have depth to the squad this season which will undoubtedly help us manage if key players are sidelined, but naturally as we look to fire ourselves up the Premier League table in the coming weeks and months, Smith will be desperate to have a fully-fit squad at his disposal to give us the best possible chance of doing so.
