Injured Villa man provides new update on long-term recovery progress

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has provided a new update on his recovery from his long-term knee injury that he suffered earlier this season.

The 30-year-old sustained the setback in our first Premier League game of the season away at Newcastle Utd in August, and the expectation is that he’ll miss the entire campaign as a result.

Mings opted to keep his recovery behind closed doors in the initial period after the blow, as we didn’t see any social media updates or either through other players or Unai Emery, barring the confirmation that he was a long-term absentee.

Fortunately for us at least in that we can now offer our support and get behind him while he goes through his rehabilitation, Mings has become more open online and is offering his insight and updates on his recovery process.

As seen in the video below, he was speaking this month, five months into his recovery, and it’s still clear that he’s feeling the pain as he steps up his workload and the scarring around his knee from the surgery is still evident.

Further, he is still working to do basic things in his everyday life, as he talks about being able to walk up and down the stairs as he continues to strengthen his knee, and so that would suggest he’s still some way off coming back.

Nevertheless, he sounds in good spirits for the most part, and staying positive is important throughout this lengthy period on the sidelines, with Emiliano Buendia, who briefly features in the video too, going through a similar, unwanted experience.

Villa have been able to cope without Mings so far this season with summer signing Pau Torres proving to be a fundamental addition to the side, while loanee Clement Lenglet is providing important cover for the Spaniard in that role on the left side of the centre-half partnership.

That said, we still miss the experience, leadership, physical presence and overall influence from Mings, and while it’s perhaps wishful thinking as we haven’t had an official comeback date from the club or player as of yet, we may well have to do without him in the coming months and hope to see him complete his rehab over the summer ahead of next season.
