Long-term Villa injury absentee provides positive update on recovery

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has provided an update on his injury recovery as his gruelling rehabilitation work continues.

The 31-year-old sustained a serious knee injury in our season opener at Newcastle Utd last August, and has been sidelined since as he has undergone surgery and intense recovery work.

While the expectation is that we won’t see him again this season, the hope is that he’s ready for pre-season and can step up his comeback significantly over the summer in order to be ready for next season.

As seen in the image below and his summary of his progress, Mings posted an update on Instagram this week, and aside from the fact that it both looks and sounds like a gruelling and challenging process for the commanding centre-half, there appears to be ongoing positive checkpoints being reached over the last seven months.

Interestingly too, he added ‘Back soon’ at the end of his caption, and so it remains to be seen if he’s able to step up his recovery schedule and return to personalised training sessions in the coming weeks.

Villa confirmed last week that Emiliano Buendia was back out on the training pitch at Bodymoor Heath doing individual work after suffering a serious knee injury of his own just a few days prior to Mings last year, and so hopefully the pair are both on a similar path and will hand us a major boost in the summer.

Naturally, we would love to see them bolster Unai Emery’s options and play a part before the current campaign ends, with Villa’s last Premier League game and a potential Europa Conference League final to be played at the end of May.

That in turn could give them an outside chance of making a matchday squad at least to get back into the routine and process, but for now, it’s just great to see both Mings and Buendia making important progress in their respective comebacks and hopefully they’ll both return as strong as they were prior to the injuries.
