Fee touted as Villa close in on Pau Torres signing

Aston Villa are expected to complete the signing of Villarreal defender Pau Torres, and it’s now suggested that the deal is worth £31.5m.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Villa have reached an agreement with Villarreal and on personal terms with the 26-year-old, who is expected to sign a contract until June 2028, with documents now being prepared and a medical being scheduled.

It’s unclear at this stage when the club will make an official announcement to confirm the deal, but all signs are pointing towards it being completed imminently, and further details are seemingly now being leaked.

According to The Telegraph, Villa are poised to seal the signing of Torres in a deal worth £31.5m, which looks to be excellent business from our perspective given the Spanish international’s quality and with his peak years ahead of him, as he looks set to become a fundamental figure in Unai Emery’s plans moving forward.

Further, as per Cope, Torres is believed to have a €65m release clause in his Villarreal contract, but given he only has one year remaining on that deal, the hope and expectation was always that Villa would be able to negotiate his price down and pay a more reasonable figure.

It appears as though that is indeed what has been agreed, and so for a player who Emery knows well and rates very highly, and one who will hopefully become a mainstay in our side for many years to come, it could prove to be a brilliant addition and certainly value for money.

Coupled with the signing of Youri Tielemans on a free transfer, Villa appear to be carrying out sensible work in the transfer market thus far, and it’s hoped that the pieces are falling into place to maintain a sense of flexibility with our spending this summer to continue to strengthen the squad with significant reinforcements.
