Aston Villa to face Chelsea away in Carabao Cup third round

Aston Villa will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Dean Smith’s side secured a comprehensive 6-0 win over Barrow this week to advance past the second round, as we eye this trophy as a real target in terms of winning silverware this season.

Having won the competition five times previously, it’s evidently one that we relish being in, but given our last success came in 1996, we’re well overdue another triumph and it will certainly be on Smith and the hierarchy’s agenda this year.

With the second round concluding on Wednesday night, the draw was subsequently made shortly after and so Villa can now prepare to face Chelsea next month.

Naturally, it’s going to be a difficult tie, but one that we can come through if we perform at our best, and so it’s hoped that our cup run can be extended when the two sides meet next month.

For now though, the focus returns to the Premier League this weekend as we host Brentford at Villa Park looking to make it three wins on the bounce across all competitions after returning to winning ways against Newcastle Utd last weekend before seeing off Barrow on Tuesday.

Smith will be desperate to extend our good form heading into the international break, and so it’s hoped that we can rack up another win and put that opening-weekend defeat to Watford firmly behind us.
