Villa paired with interest in transfer target to bolster attacking options

Aston Villa are reportedly tracking Leeds Utd forward Crysencio Summerville as an option to strengthen our attacking options.

The 22-year-old is impressing so far this season, with 11 goals and six assists in 20 Championship appearances, as he has established himself as a key player for Leeds.

With the ability to play on either flank, the talented Netherlands U21s international has seemingly caught the attention of Villa, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that we’re tracking Summerville, albeit we’re not the only ones.

Importantly though, he adds that Leeds have no intention to sell in next month’s transfer window, and so it remains to be seen whether or not our interest is genuine firstly, and if so, if we push to try and prise him away in January.

It would be an interesting signing if a deal is done, as Summerville would be a crucial addition to the squad to give us another option to play wide and give Emery more energy, pace and attacking threat in the final third.

Emiliano Buendia remains sidelined with a long-term knee injury, but we have the likes of Leon Bailey, Moussa Diaby, Nicolo Zaniolo and Jacob Ramsey at his disposal to play in wide positions, as well as John McGinn who has shown great versatility to be effective in those roles too.

That said, time will tell if Zaniolo’s season-long loan move becomes permanent, while Bertrand Traore’s current contract expires in the summer, and so there could be a gap to fill with a long-term solution like Summerville.

In turn, it may well be one to monitor as to whether or not Villa step up our reported interest in the talented Dutchman, but given our desire to compete on multiple fronts moving forward, adding competition and depth will be critical.

Further, with the recruitment team we have in place now as part of the infrastructure under Emery and President of Football Operations, Monchi, there is a strong belief that we’ll bring in the right profile to continue to build a squad capable of competing at the top level.

  1. Come on ! Maybe Villa should take a reality check and acknowledge that whilst the season so far has been positive and beyond reasonable expectations they may be well advised to entertain the possibility that it won’t last and Summerville is an expensive risk that they can ill afford.
