Aston Villa are reportedly finalising a move for Joao Gomes from Wolves, with the midfielder completing his medical on Friday.
After the departure of Youri Tielemans earlier this week, strengthening our midfield has become a priority for Unai Emery with Johan Manzambi’s arrival being confirmed already.
However, the new signings look set to continue as Gomes will be next to join up with the squad ahead of our pre-season schedule starting next week.

According to The Athletic, Gomes completed his medical at Bodymoor Heath on Friday and met up with his new teammates with the 25-year-old’s move expected to be made official imminently.
It’s added that the deal is worth around £35m, a similar fee to Tielemans, and so that will give Emery a critical option in midfield with Gomes seemingly set to partner Boubacar Kamara in our deeper pivot.
Gomes made 130 appearances for Wolves after joining them from Flamengo in 2023, scoring eight goals and providing six assists to go with his overall influence in midfield.
Further, he has 10 caps to his name for Brazil, and with his technical quality, tenacity and physicality, he’ll hopefully now go on to play a vital role for Emery and take his game to the next level.
It’s shaping up to be an exciting summer for Villa as we look to rebuild with speculation linking other key individuals with exits too, and based on our recruitment thus far with Manzambi confirmed and Gomes set to join him, we’re bringing in top talent to hopefully raise our level for the long-term future.
Villa face Walsall on Tuesday in our first pre-season outing of the summer, and another important facet of our business is that we’re moving quickly to bring reinforcements, giving them plenty of time to settle in and adapt to Emery’s demands ahead of the new campaign getting underway next month.

Another good signing for Villa, we’re looking good, just teed off with this Rogers to Arsenal saga as I see it if Arsenal are prepared to pay our £ 130 m
Asking price and if it’s true that Rogers wants to go, get it done and move on, then sign Summerville and Mbaye, Rogers is good but he can be replaced and I wouldn’t be too concerned personally.
