Touted alternative to top Villa target to bolster attacking options

Aston Villa reportedly still have a ‘strong interest’ in Norwich City ace Jonathan Rowe, as our touted pursuit of Morgan Rogers drags on.

The 20-year-old is having an impressive season with the Canaries, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists in 31 appearances, and with the versatility to play across the frontline, he could be an exciting addition.

According to the Telegraph’s John Percy, Villa maintain a strong interest in the talented youngster, and our scouts watched him in midweek as we continue to analyse and weigh up our options.

It’s added that our priority remains Middlesbrough’s Rogers, but with ongoing speculation over whether or not an agreement will be reached between the two clubs, time will tell if Villa are forced to shift their focus elsewhere and perhaps pursue Rowe instead.

As per Tom Collomosse, Rogers is keen on a move to join us, and it’s suggested that we’re set to make a third bid to acquire him, but it’s unclear if we’ll meet his £10m+ valuation.

The 21-year-old is also impressing this season with seven goals and nine assists in 33 appearances, and so either touted transfer target would be an important signing to bolster our attacking options and provide us with more firepower and creativity in the final third.

While Ollie Watkins remains our first choice frontman, Jhon Duran has played a limited role so far this season and has faced speculation over his own future this month.

With Unai Emery confirming in his pre-Chelsea press conference that the Colombian international faces a spell on sidelines due to injury, that could strengthen our desire to bring in a reinforcement in that department, and so it remains to be seen if it will be Rogers or Rowe who provides the solution.

It’s also possible that it ends up being neither, as if the right deal isn’t available, there is every chance that Villa could opt to wait until the summer to try again as we continue to look to strengthen Emery’s squad, but only with players who are capable of significantly improving us moving forward.
