Agreement reached as Villa set to secure huge fee with exit deal being finalised

Aston Villa have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea over the sale of Morgan Rogers in a deal said to be worth £117m.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit this summer, with many believing that Arsenal would perhaps be the club to prise him away from us.

After arriving from Middlesbrough in January 2024, Rogers has established himself as a fundamental figure under Unai Emery despite periods of poor form, having bagged 31 goals and 29 assists in 125 appearances.

Beyond the numbers, he has been highly influential in our system and style of play too, and so he will now leave a major void behind that will have to be filled in this summer transfer window with the Villa boss no doubt valuing him very highly.

According to David Ornstein, Chelsea have now reached a verbal agreement with Villa to sign Rogers in a deal worth £117m, with the offer being accepted and the move being finalised.

Further, he adds that a medical is expected to take place on Monday, and so this will one will seemingly move quickly.

Having already lost Youri Tielemans this past week and with Lucas Digne expected to depart soon too, there is some concern over the number of changes and how significant the players who are leaving have been in our recent success.

That said, there is also an excitement over this rebuild and how Villa choose to spend the money to bolster the squad moving forward, as these sales will now address any financial concerns that we had this year and fund our own spending on reinforcements to start a new cycle.

It’s shaping up to be a fascinating summer with Johan Manzambi already announced as our first signing and with Joao Gomes, Joao Palhinha and Pervis Estupinan all heavily tipped to join us in the coming days and weeks.

More new arrivals will be expected beyond that too, particularly if Rogers completes his move to Chelsea, while further departures can’t be ruled out either as Villa’s busy summer continues.

  1. It’s obvious that he wanted to leave Aston Villa so good luck to him but take the money and move on with our re build, he can be replaced I hope we go out now and sign Summerville and Mbaye and start afresh with all of our new signings. Onwards and upwards .
One final point I’m pleased that this is a kick in the teeth for Arsenal
