Villa quartet could leave subject to offers, Gerrard eyes two more signings

Aston Villa are reportedly far from done in the transfer window as Bertrand Traore, Morgan Sanson, Anwar El Ghazi and Douglas Luiz have all been linked with exits.

Villa wasted no time in bringing in new signings with Philippe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara, Diego Carlos and Robin Olsen all confirmed as incomings already.

While things have slowed down in recent weeks, the focus is now seemingly on trimming the squad and moving fringe players on to perhaps make room and add financial flexibility for more possible reinforcements.

According to the Daily Mail, Trezeguet could be the next through the exit door to join Trabzonspor, but it’s added that Traore, Sanson and El Ghazi can leave, provided that Villa receive acceptable offers for the trio. Further, Douglas Luiz is said to be attracting interest from around Europe, and with only 12 months remaining on his current contract, it remains to be seen if that signals an exit this summer to avoid losing him for nothing next year.

While that covers potential exits, the Mail also report that Steven Gerrard wishes to bring in a left-back as competition for Lucas Digne, while the Villa boss is also targeting an athletic midfielder.

It remains to be seen if Ashley Young returns to the club after his contract expired this month, but if the versatile veteran doesn’t come back, that in turn would certainly make signing a left-back a priority to ensure we have enough depth in that position.

As for the midfield, Kamara is undoubtedly a major solution for Gerrard in the defensive midfield role, but ultimately depending on exits as well, there is still more needed in that area of the squad to ensure we can compete at a high level consistently and push on next season.
