Dean Smith will be desperate for a positive start for his team to give them a boost heading into a difficult run of games thereafter, with Chelsea away on September 11 and Everton at home on September 18.

As noted by the club’s official site, both encounters have been moved to the 17:30 slot as they’ll both be shown live on Sky Sports, which will no doubt be a popular decision amongst the Villa faithful as it makes it easier to watch for those not attending the games in question.

Smith and most of the squad reported back for pre-season duty on Monday as preparations begin for the new season, and it won’t be long before we head into the first outing of the campaign looking to launch a sustained bid to break into the top six in the top flight and qualify for Europe.

For now though, it’s about getting everyone up to speed and ready for another gruelling year, while those who were and currently are still on international duty will naturally get an extended break before returning to Bodymoor Heath later this month or in early August.
