Crucial Villa boost as key ace resumes training after injury

Aston Villa have revealed that Jacob Ramsey has returned to group training this week after recovering from his foot injury.

The 22-year-old has yet to feature this season after suffering a broken metatarsal injury while on international duty with England U21s over the summer, and his presence in the side has certainly been missed.

Ramsey scored six goals and provided eight assists in 38 appearances last season, and with many of those coming after the appointment of Unai Emery, the Villa boss will undoubtedly be relishing having him back at his disposal for the rest of the campaign.

As per the club’s tweet below, the Villa midfielder appears to now be back in group training and out on the grass at Bodymoor Heath after his recovery, and so it now remains to be seen when he’ll be considered fit enough to feature.

Naturally, after such a lengthy spell out, he’ll need to be gradually integrated back into the side to build his match fitness and sharpness to avoid rushing him back and running the risk of suffering a fresh setback.

In turn, time will tell if he is able to make the bench this week against either Legia Warsaw in the Europa Conference League or at Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, but with such a busy fixture schedule coming up, having him back in full training will be a major boost in itself as he closes in on a comeback.

With Alex Moreno also returning to training over the international break, the Villa duo were so influential for us last season down the left flank, and so it’s a major double boost for Emery who will now have two key figures back available and ready to make their mark as we try to build on our positive start to the campaign.

Given what he provides in both phases of the game but particularly with his threat in the final third from an attacking perspective, it’s hoped that Ramsey will now have a significant influence moving forward and add a vital dynamic to our play that we’ve missed in his absence.
