Injury blow for Villa ace as he’s set for further tests after setback

Aston Villa have confirmed that Jacob Ramsey will miss the rest of the U21s European Championship due to an injury he suffered on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was forced off in the 67th minute of England’s win over Portugal, after he was caught on the ankle while challenging for the ball.

Images and video circulated after the game showing Ramsey on crutches, and so there was initial concern about the severity of the problem.

As per Villa’s statement, the Villa midfielder has now been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament, and he will undergo further assessment to determine the extent of the injury.

Naturally, there will be concern now over how long the setback might sideline Ramsey for, as although he would have been given an extended break this summer after the Championships to rest and recover before reporting back for pre-season, he won’t want to spend this month receiving treatment rather than training.

The talented ace enjoyed a real upturn in form under Unai Emery last season, ending the campaign with six goals and seven assists in 35 Premier League appearances.

With his importance and influence in the side continuing to grow, it’s vital that we have him available for the start of the new season to ensure we make a positive start, particularly with our Europa Conference League playoff tie to consider at the end of August too.

In turn, it’s hoped that there is positive news on his return to Bodymoor Heath in terms of his availability and that the injury isn’t serious, but ultimately there is concern for now given the decision to return home and being unable to continue to feature in the tournament.
