Leeds Utd 0-3 Aston Villa: Match report, highlights as Coutinho, Cash and Chambers on mark

Aston Villa secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Leeds Utd on Thursday night through goals from Philippe Coutinho, Matty Cash and Calum Chambers.

Villa opted to make one change to the side that beat Southampton last time out, with Lucas Digne returning to the starting XI in place of Ashley Young, while Chambers kept his place ahead of Ezri Konsa in the heart of the defence.

While it has to be said that Leeds were poor for the most part, Villa showed excellent defensive discipline and organisation once again as we limited the hosts to just one shot on target.

That’s back-to-back games in which we’ve done that, and that’s now three consecutive wins, three consecutive clean sheets and nine goals scored in those outings.

Coutinho got us going as his deflected effort found the back of the net after Cash pulled the ball back to him inside the box, before the Villa right-back got on the scoresheet himself.

After a superb cross-field pass from Danny Ings, Cash showed great composure and quality to switch the ball onto his left before burying his chance to double our lead.

However, the goal of the game came later on as Chambers was teed up perfectly by Mings on the edge of the Leeds box, and he made no mistake with a top-class curling effort into the corner of the net as the travelling Villa fans were treated to a brilliant display and win.

Leeds looked threatening for a period straight after half-time, but ultimately Villa were deserved winners as we produced another staunch defensive performance and capped it off with some great goals. For a third successive week, we showed a cutting edge in key moments to secure all three points and keep our good run of form and momentum going.
