Official: Aston Villa confirm signing of Josh Feeney, set to join Academy

Aston Villa have officially announced the signing of teenager Josh Feeney from Fleetwood Town, as he’ll now join up with the club’s Academy next season.

Villa are fresh from the success of lifting the FA Youth Cup last season, and building a strong Academy is undoubtedly a priority for the management and ownership.

That has been shown through their desire to continue to add top talents to the group, and as per the club’s official site, Feeney is the latest to join.

The 16-year-old gained some experience at Fleetwood while he has also captained the England U16s, and so there is evidently potential and talent there that the Villa scouting and coaching staff have spotted.

That was enough to warrant a move, and so it will be interesting to follow Feeney’s progress in the coming years as he’ll no doubt have aspirations of breaking into the senior squad further down the line.

Following the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Carney Chukwuemeka who featured for Dean Smith’s side last season, there are several talented youngsters at Villa hoping to follow suit, and it seems as though having a strong youth system which brings through top players is also an important part of the overall strategy for the club moving forward.

As seen in Fleetwood’s tweet below, they have confirmed that Feeney has joined us for a ‘substantial undisclosed fee’, with Villa opting not to share any further details on the move.
