Emery on Morgan Rogers as Villa expected to complete signing

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has confirmed that the hope is the club complete the signing of Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

As per The Athletic, Villa are said to have finally reached an agreement to sign the 21-year-old after a drawn out pursuit this month, with the deal said to be worth an initial £8m, plus £7m in add-ons.

Further, Rogers is tipped to sign a contract until 2029, and so it’s hoped that he can be an important addition to this squad both in the short-term and long-term future.

With Villa stumbling in recent weeks and our issues in attack as we seem to have lost our way in the final third after impressing through the first half of the campaign, his arrival will hopefully be an important boost to help us get back on track.

Speaking after our defeat to Newcastle Utd, Emery confirmed the intention is to complete the signing of Rogers on Wednesday, and he sounds excited to work with him and hopefully help him build on his talent and potential to become an integral figure for Villa moving forward.

“We analyse him and we follow him with a scout and as well when we played against Middlesbrough,” he told TNT Sports, as per BBC Sport.

“I think he is a potential young player and hopefully tomorrow we can sign him and he can start his new chapter here. We are motivated and excited to work with him and hopefully he can progress here like we think he will do.”

Given the intent shown from Villa to get a deal done for the Boro forward, it’s clear that Emery and our recruitment team believe he has the potential to be a great fit for us and a top player as he gains experience and develops his game.

Having seen the Villa boss improve so many of his current players since being appointed, there is optimism and excitement as to how much improvement we’ll see from Rogers, and hopefully we’ll hear from him after he’s unveiled on Wednesday, should everything go as planned.

Coupled with the signing of Kosta Nedeljkovic this month, Villa have hopefully signed two top young players that will significantly improve us with a long term vision in mind, with Rogers looking to make a more immediate impact this season, perhaps starting at Sheffield Utd on Saturday evening.
