Villa closing in on £3m Robin Olsen deal, more signings eyed

Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Robin Olsen from Roma on a permanent basis, in a swoop worth around £3m.

Villa have been quick to strengthen the squad already this summer, with Philippe Coutinho moving on a permanent basis, while Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos have since followed.

Now it appears as though we are on the verge of completing a fourth signing, with Matt Maher of the Express and Star reporting, as per his tweet below, that a deal is close for Olsen which will see us pay Roma around £3m to make his switch permanent having initially arrived on loan in January.

Maher adds that Villa are expected to bring in more new players in the coming weeks and months, but having completed a move for Carlos to bolster our options in defence, signing another centre-half is no longer on our agenda.

That would suggest that there will not be any notable exits in that department, as Steven Gerrard will undoubtedly want competition and depth in the squad. That means Carlos, Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, Calum Chambers and Kortney Hause will fight for places, unless the Villa boss believes that is one too many and opts to move one on.

For now though, Olsen would certainly be a smart signing as although he was limited to just one appearance after arriving in January, his experience and pedigree at a high level for both club and country would make him a solid addition to the squad to continue to push Emiliano Martinez for that number one spot.
