Emiliano Buendia has given his first interview as an Aston Villa player and has revealed the key reasons behind his decision to join the club.

Off the back of an excellent campaign with Norwich City, the Argentine international will now look to make an equally positive impression on the Villa faithful ahead of next season.

Speaking for the first time after news of the switch was confirmed, Buendia has revealed his excitement over his transfer to Villa and spoke about Dean Smith’s influence in his decision to make the move to Birmingham.

“I’m really, really happy in this moment. For me, it’s an amazing step to move to Villa,” he told the official site.

“I’m excited to start a new season with the club. He (Dean Smith) told me about the objectives of the club, how he wants the team to play and that was one of the things that convinced me to choose Aston Villa.

“I like the style, the project and the ambition of the club to make very good things this season and in the future. I’m really happy to have this chance this year.”

It’s not been the typical transfer announcement thus far as Buendia is currently on international duty with Argentina, and so Villa fans will likely have to wait until he’s back in England later this summer to get their first look at him in the club’s colours.

Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped him from looking ahead to next season and how he can help us compete at the top level to move further up the Premier League table moving forward, and unsurprisingly he’s hoping to replicate the form that he showed last season after bagging 15 goals and 17 assists in 41 appearances for the Canaries.

“It was my best year, in terms of football, goals and assists. I will work hard to do the same here.

“In the Premier League, it’s the best league in the world, it’s the toughest league in the world, so now I will be involved together with great players.

“I will try to help my team to have a good year.”
