Official: Aston Villa confirm Emiliano Buendia signing, five-year contract

Aston Villa have officially announced the signing of Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City, and have confirmed he is the club’s new record signing.

As per the club’s official site, they have revealed that the 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with us, while we’ve paid a record transfer fee to prise him away from Carrow Road.

Given Buendia is currently away on international duty with Argentina, it’s perhaps not quite the big reveal that many Villa fans were waiting for, but it’s certainly brilliant news to hear that we’ve landed our top summer target early in the window.

Unsurprisingly, Villa boss Dean Smith was delighted with his latest recruit, as he hailed Buendia’s impact for Norwich last season and is evidently relishing the opportunity to add him to his starting line-up next season.

“Emiliano has just completed an outstanding season in a championship-winning Norwich side with 31 combined goals and assists and was named player of the season across the league,” Smith said, as per the report above.

“He is equally capable as a wide attacker or as a number 10 and is a great addition to our attacking options. We are delighted to have made such an exciting signing so early in the summer and look forward to Emi joining up with us for a full pre-season.”

Buendia bagged 15 goals and 17 assists for the Canaries last year as he was an integral part of their successful promotion push.

Now though, he’ll be itching to link up with the likes of Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins at Villa Park, as the club have addressed an area that needed to be strengthened this summer to add more attacking quality to the side and ease the burden on Grealish to produce in the final third.
