Jacob Ramsey has insisted that he’s ‘really happy’ at Aston Villa after comments from Paul Scholes sparked questioning over his future.
The 22-year-old has come through the youth ranks at Villa and established himself as a pivotal figure in the senior side, and he showed impressive development and improvement under Unai Emery last season to finish with six goals and eight assists in 38 appearances.

The expectation is that Ramsey will continue to evolve and raise his game as he matures, gains experience and continues to learn from the Villa boss, and he’s also flourishing at international level for the U21s too as he scored in their European Championship opener last week.
With a big future ahead of him given his talent and potential, Villa will hope he will be our talisman for many, many more years, as aside from the quality he showcases on the pitch, as a local lad playing for his boyhood club, there is an obvious and deeper connection and attachment with the supporters and a desire to see him flourish further.
However, he was questioned on his future this week as unsurprisingly, his impressive performance for the England U21s sparked discussion.
It came after Scholes made a remark on Instagram, noting: ‘Surprised no big clubs are coming in for this lad!’, as per the Metro.
Ramsey though wasn’t interested in entertaining the line of questioning, as seen in his response below, as he’s happy with where he is and his main focus this summer is helping England U21s win a major tournament.
“Scholes was a top midfielder, probably one of the best British midfielders to play the game. I’m really happy at Villa, I’m from the area and I’ve got four years left on my contract,” he said, as per the Daily Mail.
“I’m here to try to win a tournament for England so I’m not really thinking about my club situation.”
Given what we’ve seen happen in the past, there will naturally be a concern over losing our key players and top talents, but the hope is that with how the club is now set up and with our ambitions and expectations growing with Emery at the helm, this is a project that players are desperate to be a part of moving forward.
Villa will hope to aim for trophies next season as we also return to European football, and having been so impressive under the Spanish tactician after his appointment in November as he led us to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, there’s no reason why we can’t continue to climb the standings too.
As he showed again last season as he continues to step up and develop his game, Ramsey has a major part to play for us, and so while the comment from Scholes should be taken as a massive compliment that he rates his ability, Villa will have zero interest in allowing said ‘big clubs’ to swoop in and take a player who will hopefully be a mainstay for us for years to come.
