Resolution eyed in next 48 hours to green light key Villa appointment

Reports in Spain have suggested that Sevilla are hopeful Monchi’s future will be resolved in the next 48 hours as a move to Aston Villa is expected.

Having now been linked with the 54-year-old for a week, and with The Guardian reporting on Monday that personal terms had been agreed but negotiations between the two clubs were continuing, the situation has rumbled on longer than those concerned would have liked.

With Villa looking to ramp up our summer transfer plans and Sevilla needing to bring in a replacement and move forward with their own strategy, it’s clear that the best outcome for both parties as well as Monchi is to draw a line, find an agreement and move forward.

According to Marca, Sevilla want a resolution in the next 48 hours before the weekend, with all three parties wanting to reach a deal given the situation has led to significant speculation. It’s added that Monchi wishes to leave, and so after talks were held with Villa officials who travelled to Spain, the focus is on reaching an agreement on his release, and while it hasn’t been closed as of yet, there are ‘decisive hours’ ahead.

Marca reported earlier this week that the discussions centre around Monchi’s release clause and the payment terms, while he also has a three-month notice period in his current contract which Villa will no doubt be keen to find a compromise on.

With talks ongoing, it’s certainly hoped that a resolution is found in the next 48 hours, as although we’ve been active in the transfer market already having confirmed an agreement to sign Youri Tielemans on a free transfer on July 1, having Monchi in place will no doubt help Unai Emery bring in his preferred targets between now and the start of the new campaign.

Ultimately, it’s doesn’t help anyone involved in the situation for this to drag out longer than the weekend given Monchi is said to have clearly communicated his desire to leave, and so the hope is that an agreement is reached in the next two days and things progress quickly for us thereafter.
