Official: Aston Villa confirm loan signing of Axel Tuanzebe from Man Utd

Aston Villa have officially announced the signing of Axel Tuanzebe from Man Utd on a season-long loan deal.

Villa have been active this transfer window with Emiliano Buendia, Ashley Young, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings having already joined us to strengthen Dean Smith’s squad.

After seeing Bjorn Engels move on last month, it left a void that needed to be filled in defence, with Villa needing more competition and depth in the right-sided centre-half role to keep pushing Ezri Konsa.

As per the club’s official site, they have now confirmed that Tuanzebe has joined on a season-long loan move from Utd, although there is no mention at this stage of there being an option to buy included in the agreement.

Tuanzebe, 23, knows his new surroundings well having been part of the Villa squad that secured promotion back to the Premier League in 2019 and so he’ll hope to fit in quickly and be at Smith’s disposal as soon as possible.

The Villa loanee has been named on the bench for our pre-season friendly against Salernitana on Sunday and so will no doubt hope to get some playing time ahead of our Premier League opener against Watford next weekend.

It remains to be seen if that’s Villa business this summer concluded or not, as while we’ve addressed the need to replace what former skipper Jack Grealish provided us with, an argument could be made that we’re still short of a couple of top signings to be in a position to compete for a European qualification spot.
