Official: Aston Villa confirm signing of Danny Ings in £25m+ deal

Aston Villa have officially announced the signing of Danny Ings from Southampton, who has now signed a three-year deal with the club.

The 29-year-old has continued to show his class since joining the Saints, scoring 38 goals and providing seven assists in 75 appearances across all competitions over the last two seasons.

With Villa looking to add more firepower to ease the pressure on Ollie Watkins, we’ve secured a top class signing in Ings who will be ready to make an instant impact this season.

As per the club’s official site, it has been confirmed that Ings has signed a three-year contract, while The Telegraph report that the transfer is worth an initial £25m with a possible £5m in add-ons while there is an option to extend his deal for an additional year.

Villa boss Dean Smith was unsurprisingly delighted with his latest recruit, as he will now look to bed him into the attacking unit with questions to be answered over whether or not this might lead to a shuffle in his preferred system and how Ings will settle and adapt to playing alongside his new teammates.

“Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played,” Smith said, as per the club’s link above. “He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young Academy players who are now in and around the first team. I am delighted to welcome Danny to our great Club.”

It’s been a busy summer transfer window for Villa as while Jack Grealish is expected to move on and join Manchester City this week, we’ve already secured the signings of Emiliano Buendia, Ashley Young and Leon Bailey.

Adding more attacking quality and creativity to be less reliant on our soon-to-be former captain was a priority for the hierarchy and management, and while there is still time for further reinforcements to arrive, that concern has certainly been addressed already.

Ings is an excellent addition to the Villa squad, not only in terms of the goals that he is more than capable of bringing to the side as long as he has the service, but his experience and leadership will no doubt make him an invaluable member of the group, especially for our young stars coming through trying to make their mark.
