Official: Aston Villa confirm signing of Leon Bailey, contract until 2025

Aston Villa have officially announced the signing of Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen, and have confirmed that he has signed a contract until 2025.

The 23-year-old joins after scoring 39 goals and providing 22 assists in just over three seasons for the Bundesliga outfit, with 15 of those goals and 11 assists coming in 40 appearances across all competitions last year.

Regarded by many as one of the top talents in Europe, Bailey has now completed his medical and agreed personal terms as per the club’s official site, while his deal will run until 2025.

It comes after he and his adoptive father and agent Craig Butler held a press conference overnight in Jamaica, with Bailey signing off on the deal and sealing his transfer to Villa.

“Leon is a hugely exciting young striker with great pace and creativity.  He has enjoyed a successful career at Leverkusen and we are now looking forward to watching him show his skills and talents for Aston Villa in the Premier League,’ Villa boss Dean Smith said of the swoop.

Bailey is now expected to join up with the rest of the squad this week, with our Premier League opener against Watford on August 14 edging ever closer.

It seems unlikely that he will feature against Sevilla in our final pre-season friendly this Saturday, but Smith will hope to have him in and around the rest of the group to settle and adapt to life in England as soon as possible, while it remains to be seen if skipper Jack Grealish will be involved as he continues to be linked with an exit this week.

For now though, Villa fans can enjoy our new signing and the boost that he’ll provide, as coupled with the signing of Emiliano Buendia earlier this summer, Smith will be delighted with the quality and goalscoring threat that has been added to his squad ahead of the new campaign.
